Guwahati Planetarium:

Guwahati Planetarium is situated in the M.G. Road, Guwahati, just adjacent to Guwahati High Court and in front of the Latasil Play Ground.

Museums and Galleries

The Assam State Museum was established on 21st April in 1940. The Kamrupa Anusandhana Samiti which was the pioneer organization in the field of historical and antiquarian studies of Assam had established the Assam State Museum. The museum was formally inaugurated by the then Governor of Assam Sir Robert Neil Reid.

The untiring efforts of Rai Bahadur Kanaklal Barua, Raibahadur Ananda Chandra Agarwalla, Kaliram Medhi were greatly responsible for establishment of the Museum.

Temples

The State of Assam has numerous temples and monuments, which stands witness to the great historical and cultural past dating back to the medieval days. Many ancient Hindu temples of Assam have some root in mythological legends. Assam at a Glance

Assam is situated in the North-East of India and is the largest northeastern state in terms of population while second in terms of area. Assam covers an area of 78,438 km2 (30,285 sq miles). The state is bordered by Bhutan and the state of Arunachal Pradesh to the north; Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur to the east; Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram, and Bangladesh to the south; and West Bengal to the west.

Culture of Assam

Assam is the meeting ground of diverse cultures. The people of the enchanting state of Assam are an intermixture of various racial stocks such as Mongoloid, Indo-Burmese, Indo-Iranian and Aryan. The Assamese culture is a rich and exotic tapestry of all these races evolved through a long assimilative process. The natives of the state of Assam are known as "Asomiya" (Assamese), which is also the state language of Assam. The state has a large number of tribes, each unique in its tradition, culture, dress and exotic way of life.
